Northwest Cleans Up Mess; Prepares for School to Open

After being victimized Saturday night by vandals who squirted paint all over the cafeteria, a trophy case in a lobby and some computers, the custodial staff at Northwest High School has done yeoman work in cleaning up the mess.

The custodial staff at Northwest High School was hard at work Tuesday, cleaning up the paint that vandals had strewn all over the school cafeteria, in hallways and onto books, computers and a trophy case.

Principal Brad Snell said the cleanup was going well and that school custodians had worked diligently to scrape off the paint and clean up the school so its ready for the first day of classes Aug. 17.

Snell said there is no estimate of the cost of the damage, but said the district is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the vandals. Capt. Ron Arnhart of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department said Tuesday there are no suspects or leads in the paint melee at the high school. Snell said it's not even certain that the vandals were students at Northwest.
