Missing Fenton Woman Found after Five-Hour Search

Woman left walked from her home and was discovered later by Jefferson County deputies using a K-9 Unit search dog.

A Fenton woman apparently walked away from her home on Samarra Estates Drive, in Fenton, and, after a five-hour search of the surrounding area, was located in a creek bed.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department reported that the woman, identified by Fox2 News as Margaret Munsell, 71, has walked out of her home Monday night, setting off the home's alarm system at about 12:30 a.m. When her husband investigated the home alarm and could not find his wife, he called 911, according to the sheriff's department report. He told deputies his wife suffered from dementia and was bi-polar.

Sheriff's deputies arrived and began a canvass of the area to search for the woman. A K-9 unit, a St. Louis County Police Department helicopter and fire personnel from the Fenton, Saline Valley and Cedar Hill fire departments assisted in the search. She was found at about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday morning in a creek bed just off of McCarthy Drive behind the Big Lots store in the Gravois Bluffs shopping area, just over a mile from her home, and taken to a hospital by the Rock Township Ambulance District.
