Learn About Police Work at Jefferson County Sheriff Citizens Academy

Jefferson County residents will have an opportunity to learn about police work through a series of "Sheriff's Citizens Academy" classes from 7 to 10 p.m. on Tuesdays beginning March 5. The 12-week series of classes, hosted by the the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department at it's office at 400 First St., Hillsboro, ends May 21.

Participants who complete the course will receive a certificate of completion. from the sheriff's department.  Class size will be limited to 30 students.  This year's Citizens Academy will be the 28th class since the inception of the program. 

The purpose of the “Sheriff’s Citizens Academy” is to increase understanding between citizens and the Sheriff’s Office through education, according to Jefferson County Sheriff Oliver "Glenn" Boyer. 

Course topics include different aspects of police work, ranging from administrative functions, narcotics, investigations, tactical teams, firearms, jail functions, traffic & road patrol and K-9. 

There is no cost to attend the academy, however, pre-registration is required.
