Fenton Man Pulled Over on Two Felony DWIs in Five Months

St. Louis County Police said Perez was driving under the influence of drugs on May 16 and had a .129 blood-alcohol content while driving Oct. 12.

A Fenton man faces two felony DWI charges after being pulled over by police twice within five months.

Bernardo Perez, 47, of the 1400 block of Hawkins Corner Drive in Fenton, was charged Jan. 24 with driving while intoxicated, drug intoxication, as an aggravated offender in a May 16 incident. He also was charged Jan. 28 with DWI as an aggravated offender for an incident on Oct. 12.

When he was pulled over May 16, St. Louis County Police said he was driving under the influence of cannabinoids, or synthetic marijuana, and benzodiapines, a sedative. He was pulled over near his home in the 1400 block of Hawkins Corner.

St. Louis County Police also said officers pulled Perez over after he swerved into another lane without signaling on Highway 141 near Hawkins Road.

An officer said he saw signs that Perez was drunk, including a strong smell of alcohol on his breath and glassy eyes. Perez admitted drinking beer, the officer said.

He saw eight signs of intoxication during a sobriety field test and a breathalyzer indicated Perez’ blood-alcohol content was 0.129 percent.

Perez also was found guilty of driving with excessive blood-alcohol content in 1995 in Fenton, in 1992 in St. Louis County, and pleaded guilty to DWI in 1986 in Clayton.

Perez posted a $10,000 bond on Monday for the May 16 DWI charge; and posted a $30,000 bond Jan. 28 on the Oct. 12 charge.
