Clayton Parking Spot Argument Leads to Arrest

A parking spot in downtown Clayton led to a heated argument Thursday.

Onstreet parking can be hard to find in downtown Clayton, but is it worth getting arrested over?

An argument over a parking space Thursday led to a police foot chase and an arrest.

According to the St. Louis Post-Distpatch, the incident happened at about 3 p.m. when a man got into an argument with another person over a parking space in the lot outside the St. Louis Justice Center at South Central and Carondolet avenues.

Clayton Police spokesman Officer Korey Golcynski told the Post that an officer arrived, but as he started to talk, the suspect took off running.

The man tried to get into a parked vehicle with another person inside, but was unsuccessful, Golcynski said.

Several other on- and off-duty police officers saw what happened and joined the chase. The man arrested a few blocks away near Hanley Road and Forsyth Boulevard.

Police found drugs in the man's car, according to Golcynski. He is being held and charges are pending.

"It's just amazing," Golcynski told the Post. "All the cops, you had justice personnel, you have attorneys, everybody's watching. All over a parking spot, too."
