Book Title is Ironic Twist in Ballwin Man's Guilty Plea

Resident pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property, stealing from UMSL bookstore.

A Ballwin resident will be getting a criminal law education in a different way.

Bryan Massey, 47, of Ballwin, pleaded guilty Friday to receiving stolen property and stealing a book on June 3 from the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus bookstore.

The title of the book he stole: “Criminal Law and Procedure.”

Massey sold the nine stolen books back to the UMSL bookstore at the Millennium Student Center between Dec. 9, 2010 and May 13, 2011.  The books were valued at more than $500.

Massey was given a $1,000 fine, a suspended imposition of sentence and was placed on supervised probation for five years.
