Bomb Scare at School Was Actually a Popular Firework

The Northwest School District reported a potential explosive device early Tuesday, which was found in the Brennan Woods Elementary parking lot. Police believe the device was used to light sparklers and other fireworks.

An explosive device reported Tuesday morning by the Northwest School District did not pose a threat, and was possibly created to detonate fireworks, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

The school district reported a possible pipe bomb around 7:15 a.m. at Valley Middle School in House Springs, according to a news release from the Sheriff's Office. A school district employee found the device in the parking lot at Brennan Woods Elementary in High Ridge, and transported it to Valley Middle School.

The device was declared safe by the St. Louis Metropolitan Bomb and Arson Unit, according to the release.

Police found several packages of used sparklers back at Brennan Woods Elementary. They believe the device was used to detonate fireworks.

No other incidents have been reported, according to the release.
