"Kitty City," the cat-care facilities at the Open Door Animal Sanctuary, is being transformed thanks to a $10,000 donation from Purina Cat Chow to help improve the shelter's cat services.

“Kitty City,” the cat-care facilities at the Open Door Animal Sanctuary, is being transformed thanks to a $10,000 donation from Purina Cat Chow to help improve the shelter’s cat services on May 21. The shelter renovation is part of the Purina Cat Chow “50 Years. 50 Shelters.” program that will support 50 cat-focused shelters nationwide – one in every state – and donate up to $200,000 in product and monetary donations to acknowledge these shelters’ dedication to the cats they serve and help facilitate the start of more cat-owner relationships.

The makeover at Open Door Animal Sanctuary is also part of the Nestlé Purina PetCare Pride Day. PetCare Pride Day is a day of community service and volunteering by Purina associates in St. Louis and at plant cities across the country. In 2013, the program’s 12th year, more than 1,200 associates will volunteer at five animal welfare organizations and other community organizations.

The renovation at Open Door Animal Sanctuary will feature the assembly of a new cat jungle gym, cat beds, furniture and painting of a custom mural. In addition to the monetary donation, Purina Cat Chow is supporting the renovation with a team of 50 volunteers to complete the work. With these renovations, Open Door Animal Sanctuary plans to increase its cat adoptions by 15 to 20 percent.

The 50 shelters will also have the opportunity to receive up to an additional $1,000 each based on a consumer voting program that runs through June 14, 2013. For every vote cast for a specific shelter, Purina Cat Chow will donate $1, up to $1,000 for each shelter (limit one vote per person per day). Purina Cat Chow celebrates 50 years of feeding great relationships between cats and their owners in 2013.
