Chris Day: Man, Marine and Police Officer, Dies of Cancer

The man fondly know in the law enforcement arena as Superman, lost his battle with leukemia.

High Ridge resident Chris Day has always live in the southern portion of St. Louis.

Before leaving to serve as a combat infantryman in the Marines, the retired St. Louis City police officer grew up in the Shaw neighborhood of South St. Louis.

According to Michael D. Sorkin's St. Louis Post Dispatch article about Day, he is a modern day Superman in the law enforcement profession. He retired from two posts with St. Louis City and St. Louis County law enforcement; and he's been shot on two separate occasions; four bullets in total have hit him.

Soon after his second retirement, he was diagnosed with leukemia. He gave it a good fight, but Christopher James died on Wed., June 12, 2013) at the Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. He was 61.


Day's survivors, include  his wife and brother, as well as three sons, Brian Day of O’Fallon, Mo., and Patrick Day and Vince Day of St. Louis. He also has a daughter, Katie Day of St. Ann; a stepson, Larry Brouk of Wellston, Okla.; a stepdaughter, Angela Matthews of Fenton; and two sisters, Josephine Lupo of St. Louis County and Nanette Cook of Kirkwood. He also has another brother, Steve Day of St. Louis; and five grandchildren.
