Unusual Birthdays Today and a Lindbergh Project Graduation Dinner

Things you need to know about Feb. 16.

Good morning Fenton and High Ridge!

Here's what's going on Feb. 16.

Project Graduation: Lindbergh High School's Project Graduation 2012 group is trying to raise some funds in a "Dine to Donate" program in association with a local steakhouse. Those who dine tonight at the Texas Roadhouse at 1220 S. Kirkwood Road, Kirkwood, will know that a portion of their bill will be donated to Lindbergh's Project Graduation 2012 group. You'll need a special flyer if you decide to "Dine to Donate" but you can get that by contacting Debbie Merkel at merkel_debra@hotmail.com

In 1968, the first 911 phone system went into service in Haleyville, AL. Prior to the 9-1-1 system (NOT 9-eleven) those who needed the police or fire departments had to dial O for the Operator, who would then place a call to the appropriate emergency personnel.

In 1978, the first Computerized Bulletin Board Service (known as Ward and Randy's CBBS) was started in Chicago by computer hobbyists Ward Christensen and Randy Suess as a way for them to exchange information between one another via a phone modem. So, when you attach that photo of your baby in an email to Grandma, think of Ward and Randy for making it possible.

Pictures Perfect: Those seeking to learn about, or improve, their picture-taking skills may want to take advantage of a class led by Jim True, a member of the St. Louis Artists' Guild and vice-president of Jefferson County Artists' Guild, at the this evening. True will teach the operation and styles of different cameras and films  and will critique pictures taken at meetings and sharing pictures with others. True also will talk about photojournalism, as well as providing special speakers to discuss the ins and outs of photography. The course is from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m.. For more information or to make a reservation for the class, contact Cindy Horton at 636-677-8186.

Weather or not:  The National Weather Service says there's a 100 percent chance of rain (is that still "a chance?"). Watch out for patchy fog in low-lying areas. It's expected to gradually clear up during the morning and will be sunny by Friday afternoon, which is forecast to be sunny. The high temp is expected to be in the mid-50s.
