The World Hangs on Palin's Every Tweet

As President Obama embraces Twitter, Sarah Palin's 140-character posts continue to make national news.

It wasn't until recently that the President invested in Twitter. This has always been a mystery considering his success in social network campaigns and his Youtube and Facebook town halls. Recently he conducted his first Twitter town hall and, begrudgingly took up the familiar mantle of that cute little blue bird. This is nothing new for politicians and pundits alike. We all have Twitter. This is how we stay current and up-to-date with what anyone has to say at any given moment.

One famous tweeter is Sarah Palin. Obama was once quoted as saying of her tweets "They hang on her every word." This is completely true. A commonality shared by many Palinistas is the constant hovering over her Twitter page and Facebook as well as the three or more times daily that we all google her name in hopeful anticipation for some form of news regarding our patriot princess.

The power of her 140-character statements on Twitter is astounding. She tweets and the world stands still. Her use of the word "refudiate," a slight typo, sent news sources, bloggers, and YouTubers reeling for 24 hours and won the New Oxford American Dictionary's 2010 Word of the Year. This was all aside from the actual news of the story, which lumbered on for the remainder of that week, that Sarah Palin had asked Muslims in America to stand up and reject the building of the mosque on Ground Zero. This is a perfect example of a tweet heard 'round the world.

We do hang on her every tweet, and we likely will for a long time to come. Today, within a two-hour period, she tore at Obama three times. She demanded a balanced budget, a debt solution and an end to the attacks on seniors. She went as far as to tell him to "womanup." And why not?

There is no need to wonder as to why Sarah's tweets rock the net. She is saying what we have all been thinking and saying ourselves. Its amazing how one woman can summarize, in 140 letters, everything middle class America is discussing in our everyday lives. And she is the only one honest enough, direct enough and with enough influence to say it out loud and to be heard and reverberated by the rest of America.

Gov. Palin's Twitter account, and Facebook as well, have gotten her more attention that any other GOP candidate can seem to muster for one of their lack-luster speeches. It is time people start to take notice of this. It becomes so easy to discount Sarah Palin as a viable candidate because of what we have heard and what the media is saying. If that is really true though, why is the world hanging on her every word? How does she seem to inadvertently steal the thunder of the GOP runners and Barack Obama alike? And why, pray tell, is she everpresent in the polls for 2012 if no one thinks she's electable and no one thinks she is going to run. An unannounced candidate is running behind Romney and Obama by single digits, and this is just in some of the polls; others were placing her a mere point behind, or even ahead of Romney. Sarah has the fire in her belly, and her fingers on the keyboard.

Election 2012 is right around the corner and it only takes 12 characters to change it all: "I AM RUNNING."
