Rockwood Summit Grad Uses Girl Scout Project to Give Back to Soccer Team

Nicole Sparks built covered dugouts for future soccer players. "... I was already off and running," she said of the project. "As much as they say, 'Goalies don't run,' I was running."

Rockwood Summit High School Class of 2013 graduate Nicole Sparks was a three-year varsity goalie, MVP and represented the school in the North-South All Star Game this past weekend. She's also a dedicated Girl Scout.

Having received her 13-year badge earlier this year, Sparks decided she could earn her Gold Award and give back to the Rockwood Summit soccer program by constructing benches and covered dugouts for future players. She celebrated her accomplishment with a ribbon cutting on June 27.

Sparks explains her inspiration in the video above.

Sparks contacted more than 50 businesses asking for sponsorships, including SSM St. Clare Health Care Center and Jim Butler Chevrolet, who helped fund the project. RSD Architects assisted Sparks in designing blueprints and construction supervision. She also thanked her family for their assistance on the project, in addition to her project coordinator and coach Chris Kappler.

Sparks will study pre-med at Truman State University, where she will continue playing soccer.
