Wet Roads Not Closed in Fenton - Yet

Meramec River levels will rise through Monday, flooding some roads near the river, before it drops steadily to below flood levels by May 10.

Traffic was flowing freely Friday in Fenton, albeit through some large puddles on the River Road, but if National Weather Service (NWS) predictions are correct, that won't be the case Sunday.

According to the NWS, minor flood stage of 16 feet on the Meramec River is expected to be reached at 1 p.m. Saturday at Valley Park, a level that will bring flooding in the usual low-lying areas. There is no NWS flood gauge in Fenton.

By 1 p.m. Monday, the Meramec is expected to crest at 21.7 feet, possibly closing Yarnell Road at Riverside Drive and Larkin Williams Road at the Riverside Golf Club entrance. Those closures typically occur at a flood level of 21.9 feet, according to the NWS, just inches higher than the crest forecast.

On Friday, the River Road (Larkin Williams Road), in Fenton, was waterlogged, but passable, much of the day as the rain continued unabated.

Residents can expect moderate flooding to begin Saturday afternoon as the Meramec reaches an expected 19-foot level. The Meramec was at 12.33 feet Friday, according to the NWS. The weather service indicates that river level forecasts take into account past precipitation as well as any expected rain in the next 24 hours.
