River Rolling Through Fenton at Fast Pace

With no more rain, the National Weather Service is predicting a crest late Wednesday night at about five feet below the last major flood in March 2008.

Fenton City Administrator Mark Sartors said parts of the city's river roads (Larkin Williams and Yarnell roads) along the Meramec River are likely to be closed "by about two-ish this afternoon" as the river levels continue to rise.

But the flooding is likely to be significant as Sartors said the river is expected to crest Wednesday at about midnight, barring no additional rainfall.

"It looks like if everything they say comes to pass, that the river will crest about five feet below the March 2008 flood," Sartors said.

The Meramec River level at Valley Parks was at 16.8 feet above flood stage at 10:45 a.m. Monday. The crest, rising to 30.6 feet above flood Thursday evening would mean that Yarnell Road, Riverside Drive, Fabricator Drive Soccer Park Road, Rudder Road and Larkin Williams Road would be under water, according to the National Weather Service. At 7 feet above flood stage, Highway 141 at Interstate 44 begins to flood.

We'll have regular reports all week on Patch as the river rises with the continuing rains.
