Mi Lupita Recreates Authentic Mexican Flavors

The flavors and dishes from Mexico's Zacateca region are the specialty of Mi Lupita in Fenton, where family recipes are featured and still overseen by "Mama."

Ask Mi Lupita’s servers about their claim to serving authentic Mexican food and they’ll say," ... it doesn’t get any more authentic then here – Mama’s still cooking in the kitchen."  And mama cooks everything from scratch - from salsa to sauce to homemade tamales from family recipes brought from Mexico’s Zacateca region.

is tucked along the south edge of Fenton’s Old Main Street in an unassuming building that could easily overlooked. But don’t.  You wouldn’t want to miss the opportunity to sample its extensive menu featuring such authentic Mexican dishes as the Bistek Zacatecano, considered a spicier variation of the fajita. Bistek Zacatecano ($9.95) is a mix of seared beef strips and tomato sauce seasoned with a garlic and jalapeno served with warm tortillas. Of course, fajita purists can order beef, chicken or shrimp fajitas prepared in the familiar mannor - either spicy or mild with sides of cheese and lettuce for wrapping with flour tortillas.

The menu features the usual tacos, chile rellenos and tamales However, what sets Mi Lupita apart from other Mexican restaurants is its sauces.  A favored customer sauce is the Poblano, a slightly sweet dark sauce with a subtle bite of chile, which is used in its house specialties - Molé Poblano and Enchiladas Poblanos.  Another dish laced with sauce is the Chiaquiles, an egg dish layered with tortillas and cheese. For those who want to go green, order Enchiladas Verdes, a green sauce made from fresh tomatillos.
