Jefferson County Library Next Food for Fines Amnesty April 29

The canned goods collected are donated to local food pantries.

Jefferson County Library will again offer its popular “Food for Fines” amnesty on April 29.

Customers with outstanding fines for overdue materials may have their fines erased by donating canned food items. During 2011 the library will forgive up to one dollar in fines for each can of food donated.

On March 25 the library collected 569 canned food items and waived $508 in overdue fines. For the first quarter of 2011 the library has collected a total of 2,277 canned food items and waived a total of $1,936 in fines. All the food collected is donated to local food pantries.
