Hidden Valley Helps Mother Nature with Snow

Managers of the St. Louis area ski resort in Wildwood hope the current string of cold temperatures hangs on for this week. The resort will open Wednesday afternoon.

All staffers wanted for Christmas was snow, but the white powder didn't come this year. The past two nights of colder temperatures enabled them, however, to start making their own snow with more confidence that it can be sustained for a while.

Hidden Valley General Manager Bill Brandes said the resort will open at 1 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. He said there is enough base snow to open andthe resort "go from there." He also said temperatures below freezing, along with low humidity, are key to skiing, boarding and tubing conditions.

The resort has 12 ski trails as well as a snow tubing area. New for this year are group rates for 15 to 50 people for the Polar Plunge tubing area.
