Film Premieres, a Star-Studded Benefit and Jazz

Here are some events to consider checking out this weekend.

1.
Where/When:
, 2640 S. Big Bend Blvd., Maplewood; noon-5 p.m. Saturday
Why Go: More than 90 wines will be featured throughout the store for tasting. Also try samples from Mom's Originals Gourmet Pretzels, Billy Goat Potato Chip Co., Bissenger's Head Chocolatier and yes, Schlafly beer!

2.
Where/When:
, 7539 Manchester Rd, Maplewood; 7 p.m. Saturday.This event is SOLD OUT! But wait, a new showing has been added for 2 p.m. Sunday, April 10, same location. Tickets go on sale Monday, April 4.
Why Go: This hits close to home. A screening of filmmaker Matt Sielback's documentary about Joe's Place, a home which provides shelter in a supervised environment for homeless teenage boys in the Maplewood Richmond Heights School District. A wine reception will be held following the screening at Sunnen, 7910 Manchester. Proceeds support Joe's Place.

$10 for the film only, $35 film and wine reception

3.
Where/When:
, 130 Edgar Rd, Webster Groves;  10 a.m. Saturday
Why Go: Catch the final session of the season (1st Saturday of the month October through April). The entire family can share the experience of kids getting introduced to the arts. Presenters this month are Diva La Tap, Krueger Pottery and St. Louis Cultural Flamenco Society.

, 111 S Geyer Rd.; doors open at 6, trivia starts at 7 p.m. Saturday
Why Go: Ten rounds of trivia, attendance prizes, a silent auction and more are part of this fundraising event. The Fritz Foundation provides scholarships to deserving students to honor the legacy of Kirkwood Police Officer, Tom Ballman who was killed in the line of duty.
Pricing:
$20 per person, $175 per table of 10

5.
Where/When:
, 33 E Glendale Rd., 7 p.m. Saturday
Why Go: Have fun while contributing towards scholarships for local high school students attending University of Missouri.
Pricing:
$25 per person, $5 optional Bad Beat tournament entry at the door and  $25 rebuys allowed through the break at 9 p.m.

Washington University, Brown Hall 100, 1 Brookings Dr.; 8 p.m. Friday; 5 and 8 p.m. Saturday
Why Go: Enjoy the local premieres of critically-acclaimed Italian films. And yes, there are English subtitles. The festival runs through April 16.

7. 23RD ANNUAL BOB COSTAS BENEFIT FOR SSM CARDINAL GLENNON CHILDREN'S MEDICAL CENTER
Where/When:
527 N. Grand Blvd.; 8 p.m. Saturday
Why Go:
Bob brings friends! Talk-show host and comedian Conan O'Brien will entertain and so will country music singer, Faith Hill.

8. TOWER GROVE HOUSE REOPENS FOR THE SEASON
Where/When:
Missouri Botanical Garden, 4344 Shaw Blvd.; 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Why Go:
Visit the home of Garden founder, Henry Shaw. Restoration has been done over the years and the home is full of 19th century treasures that actually belonged to Shaw as well as  many of the same era.

Entry included with Garden admission, $3-$8

9. THE REAL MCCOY
Where/When:
The Grandel Theatre, 3610 Grandel Square, Grand Center; 8 p.m. Friday, 3 and 8 p.m. Saturday, 3 p.m. Sunday. Through April 11th.
Why Go:
The play is based on the true story of Elijah McCoy, the African-American inventor of the self-lubricating steam engine, one of his many inventions from which society has benefited.  Antonio Fargas, best known for his role as Huggy Bear in "Starsky and Hutch" portrays McCoy's father.

10. ANN HAMPTON CALLOWAY
Where/When:
Jazz at the Bistro, 3536 Washington Ave.; 8:30 and 10:15 p.m. Friday and Saturday
Why Go:
The award-winning singer and songwriter has fun with her jazz.
Pricing:
$35-$40, $20 students
