Visit Santa at the Train Museum
Do you want to visit Santa without having to buy an expensive photo package? You're in luck! Santa will be hanging out at the Museum of Transportation every weekend before Christmas!
Santa will be at the Wabash Caboose, the newest caboose added to the train museum’s collection parked right outside the visitor’s center.
Visiting Santa at the train musuem is more casual than seeing him at the mall. There’s no photographer, so if you want a photo, bring your own camera. Santa isn’t charging extra either, so you’ll see him as part of your regular admission price ($8 for adults, $5 for kids over 3).

While you’re at the Museum of Transportation, get into the holiday spirit by checking out the old Famous-Barr Christmas train, on display at the visitor’s center! (For you youngsters or non-natives, Famous-Barr was the big local department store, later bought out by Macy’s.)
The train ran at Famous-Barr’s (then Macy’s) downtown location for the last 25 years every Christmas season. But it didn’t really belong to the store, it was run by a local train club. When Macy’s decided to not run the display at another location, they helped the club move the huge setup to the train museum, where kids can continue to enjoy it. The display includes some pretty old trains and runs on three layers of track. You’ll be impressed.

The Transportation Museum is also doing Cookies with Mrs. Claus on December 7-8–free with admission.
The miniature train ride is scheduled to wrap up the season on Sunday, December 1, but it only runs when the weather is good…so you may have to wait until spring to ride the rails. And if you’re interested in the Creation Station, it’s open most weekends…check the calendar for boarding times. (There’s also a special member’s only Wednesday mornings for the pre-school crowd.)
Check out the full calendar and hours over at the Museum of Transportation’s website. The museum is located at 2933 Barrett Station Road in Kirkwood.
