Bowles Elementary - Champions of Character Award

Champions of Character at Bowles Elementary

Bowles Elementary School was awarded the Champions of Character Award today by the Cardinals Care Team. They were the only school in the State of Missouri to receive this award recognizing the Character Education and outstanding service learning activities that have been done throughout the school year by the students. The students and staff celebrated all their hard work with Fredbird in attendance. To close the assembly one of the students showed why the school was honored by having his hair shaved in front of the entire school.

Noah is currently in third grade at Bowles. Early last summer Noah's second grade teacher, Marian Cleveland, was diagnosed with breast cancer and Noah was compelled to do something to honor her. So, he chose to grow out his hair to raise awareness among others in our community of the growing frequency of this disease. He wanted Mrs. Cleveland to know she was not alone in her fight against breast cancer and that his love, prayers and support were with her throughout her treatment. Over the past year he and Mrs. Cleveland have had little mini-reunions where he updated her on all the kids and school happenings and was able to let her see his progress in growing out his long blonde locks. Noah's hair will be sent to Wigz for Kidz in honor of Mrs. Cleveland. He has inspired others to do the same thing. We think Noah Fansler is a great example for our Champions of Character Award and represents the shared sentiments of our whole school. We all love Mrs Cleveland who made her first visit back to the school since undergoing her treatment for Breast Cancer!

Our thanks also to Fredbird and the Cardinals Care Organization for selecting Bowles Elementary for this great award.
