Kaiser Electric Awarded University Physicians-South Providence Clinic Project

Kaiser Electric has been awarded the University Physicians-South Providence clinic project under the University of Missouri (MU) Health System in Columbia, MO. A groundbreaking ceremony for the facility, to be located in South Providence Medical Park at 551 E. Southampton Drive, was held on June 26.

Kaiser Electric will be installing the main electrical service, indoor and outdoor lighting, branch circuiting, a nurse call system, lightning protection, and a fire and security system in the new two-story, 85,500-square-foot clinic. Construction on the facility is expected to be complete in spring 2015.

The cost of the project, including the clinic building and property acquisition where the South Providence Medical Park is located, will total approximately $35 million, according to MU officials.

The new  clinic will house pediatric primary care services currently provided at the University Physicians-Green Meadows clinic, family medicine services currently offered at the University Physicians-Green Meadows and University Physicians -Woodrail clinics, and expanded outpatient behavioral health services. MU officials expect the new clinic's more than 50 physicians and 100 staff to receive more than 100,000 patient visits in its first year of operation in 2015.

"We designed this clinic to take advantage of a collaborative model of care and reinforce our ability to provide excellent patient care in a convenient setting," said Mitch Wasden, Ed.D, MU Health Care chief executive officer and chief operating officer. "By offering these services in one location, we can offer all-around care to the whole person and the whole family."

The focal point of the University Physicians-South Providence clinic will be an open atrium space. With a glass-enclosed open entrance, patients will be able to easily find their physician’s clinic. The building also will be equipped with sustainability features to reduce its environmental impact. Each exam room will automatically turn off the lights when the room is unoccupied. The building also will include other environmentally friendly features such as exterior storm water basins that will double as decorative water features and provide a natural landscape.

The new facility will also include:

  • 30 rooms dedicated to pediatric patients, each with in-room height, weight and vital sign measurement stations
  • 15 rooms dedicated to outpatient behavioral health care
  • Two conference rooms for group behavioral therapy
  • 48 rooms dedicated to family medicine patients
  • A 2,000-square-foot pharmacy with drive-through service
  • Radiology services that will include Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computed Tomography (CT), ultrasound, X-ray and mammography
