Visions for Vacancies: What Should Take Blockbuster's Place in Fenton?

As one store closes, what are your ideas for the best use of the soon-to-be vacant Blockbuster Video space?

The Blockbuster video store is in the midst of and inventory clearance sale as it prepares to close its doors Feb. 19 at 72 Gravois Plaza, Fenton. The retail space in Olde Towne Fenton will soon be available for a new tenant.

Thew question is: What kind of business would represent the best, or most welcome, use for the space. What should go there?

Set aside for the time being any thoughts of zoning for the property, or special city requirements. It's clearly  a retail zone currently, but a new proprietor may have a different idea. There are hundreds of businesses in Fenton. What new business does it need?

Now is your time to weigh in with your wish list. What would you like to see in the vacated Blockbuster space? The store in Gravois Plaza is near several restaurants, an Aldi's grocery store and adjacent to US Bank. A competitor, Hollywood Video, was located in the Gravois Bluffs shopping center, but it closed months ago.

According to the Blockbuster website, the company has more than 5,000 stores worldwide, soon to be 4,999. Once a prime outlet for videotape and then DVD rentals, Blockbuster now offers movies via vending machines, by mail or by digital downloads. Last year, Blockbuster was purchased by Dish Network Corporation, following the filing by Blockbuster of Chapter 11 bancruptcy, according to the website. Blockbuster is a wholly owned subsidisary of Dish Network Corp.
