St. Louis IKEA Rumors Spark Again--But the Proposed Location Isn't Where You'd Expect

Every few months, rumors of an IKEA coming to the St. Louis area ignite. This time around, SPACE St. Louis tweeted they heard via some "real estate chatter" that the furniture store was going forward with a space at Vandeventer and Forest Park Parkway in St. Louis City, Riverfront Times reports. (nextSTL first reported on the property as a potential location in March.)

RFT was quick to verify with an IKEA spokesman that the retailer hadn't announced a location, though they "are totally interested in the St. Louis market."

Much of the previous IKEA chatter has targeted possible locations in St. Louis County. Last summer St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported the store could be constructed in the Hadley Township area near Interstate 40 and Hanley Road.

At that time we asked Patch readers where they'd prefer to see the store pop up. Many named the former Chrysler plant in Fenton as a desirable spot--and a Facebook page dedicated to the idea boasts more than 15,000 followers. An RFT investigation into the space speculated that the land--at 295 acres--was likely too large for the retailer's needs. (Though it may not be too large for a new Rams stadium or electric generating plant, which have also been rumored for the land.)

Crestwood Court and Northwest Plaza were also suggested by Patch readers as potential homes for IKEA.

Would you prefer to have an IKEA store in St. Louis City or County--or would you just be happy to have one in the St. Louis area? Tell us in the comments.
