Patch Readers Excited for New Wendy's in High Ridge, Less So About New McDonald's

Is all fast food created equal? Apparently not. Readers share their ideas for chains they'd like to see in Fenton and High Ridge.

The High Ridge Commons area is slowly but surely building up. The commercial area off of Gravois Road is anchored by Walmart. A Mattress Source recently moved into the neighboring strip mall, with a Wendy's restaurant opening next week across the street.

When Patch shared a photo of Wendy's progress earlier this week, it drew several positive reactions from readers and Facebook fans. But perhaps the most frequent comment was "... but 'no' to the McDonald's next door."

There are no identifiable golden arches, but the bones of the new restaurant are going up at 2127 Innerbelt Business Center Dr. (pictured).

"We're all happy with the Wendy's, the new look is sleek - very nice! ...but McD's? Another one?? Why not Burger King or Chick-A-Fil or something if it HAS to be fast food?" reader Melissa Gill said.

There are currently five McDonald's locations in and around Fenton and High Ridge:

  • 1867 Bowles Ave. (Fenton)
  • 501 Old Smizer Mill Rd. (Fenton)
  • 100 Old Sugar Creek Rd. (Fenton)
  • 2109 Smizer Station Rd. (Valley Park)
  • 13600 Big Bend Rd. (Valley Park)
The McDonald's is a done deal, but that didn't stop readers from sharing ideas about what new restaurants they'd like to see come to the area. In addition to Gill's suggestions for a Chick-Fil-A or Burger King, multiple readers threw out St. Louis Bread Co.

Tell us: What chains (national or regional) do you think Fenton and High Ridge residents would support?
