Olde Towne Fenton Leaders Seeking Fresh Look for Business District.

Banners, Christmas decorations, farmer's market under discussion by the Olde Towne Fenton group.

The business leaders who make up the Olde Towne Fenton Business Association discussed plans Tuesday to help beautify and bring a fresh look to the original Fenton business district.

Under consideration are street banners that would hang from light poles or telephone poles along Old Gravois Road between the new Meramec River Bridge and Hwy. 141, as well as along the sides streets of the original village of Fenton. The design of the banners were discussed, as well as the cost of the banners and the brackets that would hold them. The group hopes the City of Fenton would be able to lend a hand by either installing the banners, or changing them out if the group decides to have several "seasonal" banners.

In conjunction with the banner program, the Olde Towne group would like to see new Christmas decorations in Olde Towne, as the current decorations are dated.

One other idea to attract attention to Olde Towne Fenton is to help organize a farmer's market at the new Fenton Pavilion at Old Gravois Road and Old Hwy. 141. The main obstacle is to find several people or a group willing to manage the farmer's market, which likely would only be operating on weekends. One proposal to have a full-time farmer's market open seven days a week has been rejected by the city. Pam Seemayer and Angie Anderson will be coordinating efforts to  get a farmer's market started and will provide information to anyone who would like to participate in the market or may be interested in managing it. Seemayer can be reached at 314-971-2394.

A recruiting effort of sorts also will be discussed by the Olde Towne group, an effort to attract more of the 125 or so businesses that are located in the old district to become members of the business association.

The Olde Towne group also is looking into scheduling a variety of events in the district, including art and/or music events, a wine tasting event, a casino night and a mouse races event. The idea is to bring more attention to Olde Towne Fenton and to provide entertainment options for residents.
