FW Warehousing, of Sauget, IL, is opening a 543,000 square foot warehouse in Fenton. It’s one of the warehouses left over from the Chrysler plant, but according to FW president and CEO, Mark Cusumano, it’s beautiful.
“It’s been vacant ever since they shut down the Chrysler plant,” he said. “It’s huge. It’s beautiful; brand new. It’s a 10-year-old building.” The warehouse is at 2119 Hitzert Court, in Fenton.
Cusumano said they only had to cut down weeds and clean the inside. “We are moving people in as we speak,” he said.
Currently four employees work there, and Cusumano said they plan to have 60 employees there in 12 months. The new hires will be for warehouse and customer service positions.
The first customer of the space is an undisclosed global manufacturer based in Fenton, according to Cusumano, which will use about 50,000 square feet of the space. He’s optimistic about filling the rest of the warehouse.
“We feel that the market there in Fenton is under-served with third-party distributing companies,” he said. “We feel we can service all the different local manufacturers and distributors that need outsourced distribution.”
Melissa Appel has been named facility manager for the new distribution center. She previously served as the inventory control manager for FW Warehousing.
