Contestants to Grapple at Xtreme Krav Maga in Fenton

The St. Louis Grappling Open is said to be one of the largest jiu jitsu grappling tournaments in the Midwest.

Xtreme Krav Maga, the self-defense and fitness studio at 639 Gravois Bluffs Blvd., Fenton, is hosting what it calls one of the largest jiu jitsu grappling tournaments in the Midwest on Friday (Sept. 15) and Saturday (Sept. 16) at it's Gravois Bluffs facility.

It's called the St. ,Louis Grappling Open and Steve Sulze, the Extreme Krav Maga owner and certified head instructor, says 130-180 grapplers from all over the Midwest are expected to compete.

The adult men and women's, and master's divisions will be Friday, with a kids and teens competition set for Saturday.

Although there have been a lot of contestants preregister, Sulze says registration at the event is possible for the adult divisions. Teen and kids competition was by pre-registration only.

Registration fees are $50 for either the the Gi or Nogi divisions, or $60 for both.

Sulze says grappling is a combinsations of jiu jitsu and wrestling move and is mostly "floor work."

Spectators are welcome to watch the event, Sulze said. There will be refreshments available. Admission is $5 per person.
