Local Remodeler Starring in DIY Network Renovation Show

Jefferson County native John Stanley and his crew give a 'retro kitchen' a makeover in the pilot episode of "Renovation Rebels."

The owner of an Oakville-based renovation company will be featured in a new pilot on DIY Network this weekend.

John Stanley and his crew of craftsmen from L.J. Remodeling, 3209 Ridgeview Manor Dr., will tackle a kitchen remodel on “Renovation Rebels,” which debuts Sept. 8 at 9 p.m. The Jefferson County native said he’s dealt with remodels and custom builds of all types throughout his construction career, and hopes to show the breadth of his experience if the show gets picked up for a full season (or three).

Stanley completed a remodel job for St. Louis-based Cool Fire Media around seven years ago, and said the production company recommended him when DIY Network inquired about potential hosts. The show will follow his crew as they complete a range of projects, which could focus on a single room or entire house. True to DIY form, Stanley said he and his crewmembers talk viewers through the process so they may replicate projects in their own homes.

Viewers can expect a “big reveal” on their kitchen project. Stanley said you should also expect a lot of humor.

“I have a good group of guys that I work with,” he said. “We’re serious most of the time but we like to goof around a little bit to make the day go easier.”

If the network picks up the show, Stanley could film up to three seasons, he said. Shooting would begin this fall for the first season, and he expects a film crew to be on hand four to five hours per day. The craftsmen worked for 11-12 hours each day when shooting the pilot, which Stanley said is closer to his daily workday.

“As long as there are people working I try to stay on the job,” he said.

Stanley’s clients hail from throughout the St. Louis area and into Illinois, so he said it will be a surprise what they do next.

“The area doesn’t matter to me where I go. I’m willing to go anywhere,” he said.
