Community Health and Safety Fair

The 11th annual Northwest Jefferson County Community Health and Safety Fair will feature more than 70 health care and safety providers. 

            Health services which will be offered free of charge, including blood pressure, asthma, sleep apnea, posture screenings and body fat analysis. 

The House Springs Lion’s Club, in conjunction with Clarkson Eyecare Foundation, will provide ambliopia (lazy eye) screenings for children and refractory screenings for adults.

            “Safety Town” is an educational miniature town that will be set up will be set up to educate children/families on traffic safety.  Kids will be able to peddle their way through safety town learning about proper traffic/pedestrian safety.  Safety Town is sponsored by Safe Kids St. Louis, of Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center.  Safe Kids St. Louis will also be checking car seats/booster seats for children ages birth to 8 years old for recalls and proper installation. 

Free mammograms will be available to women over the age of 40 who have no health insurance, and who have not had a mammogram within the last year.  The Siteman Cancer Center, in conjunction with Barnes Jewish Hospital, will provide the service on their Mobile Mammography Van.  Appointments will be taken for mammograms beginning at 8:00 a.m.  To make an appointment for a screening, women should call 314-747-7222 or 1-800-600-3606.  Appointments are not needed for any other screening.  Various other organizations will provide information about their services.

Jefferson County P.R.I.D.E. and the Jefferson County Sherriff’s Department will have a table set up for the DEA’s National Prescription Drug Takeback.  Residents can bring in any unused prescription medications, in their original containers, to be destroyed. 

Fire and ambulance equipment will be on view and the Cedar Hill Fire District’s Safe House will be there to teach fire safety.
