3 of the Most Winding Local Roads

Patch went looking for the most twisty-turny roads in the area.

Roads tend to get interesting as you head towards Jefferson County. Relatively straight major highways give way to two-lane blacktops snaking through steep and wooded hills. Back here, drivers are likely to encounter roads that range from curvaceous and picturesque to twisted and downright dangerous. Your best bet? Bring a nice set of leather driving gloves and a sherpa if you're not familar with these tortuous drives.

Hillsboro Road: Take Hwy. 141 to Meramec Station Road and turn right at . Hold on to your hat—you’re now on twisty Hillsboro Road. The road is narrow and full of sudden turns. It’s also a very pretty drive through the Forest 44 Conservation Area. Surprisingly, the road never leads all the way to Hillsboro, but instead morphs into Hillcrest somewhere behind Gravois Bluffs.

Antire Road: Thousand of St. Louis Boy Scout families know that Antire Road is the exit for summer fun, since the is right at the beginning of Antire Road. What they don’t know is that there’s so much more to Antire—twists and turns through rugged hills, past horse farms and a few of our Patch favorites: the and . If you dare, Antire Road turns into Hwy. PP and will take you all the way across Fenton-High Ridge Patchland, from Hwy. 44 to Hwy 30.

Rock Creek Road: Patch is pretty sure Rock Creek Road started off as a goat track, for there’s no other excuse for this road that takes “meandering” to the extreme. Rock Creek Road is off Hwy. 30 in High Ridge near . Drivers along Rock Creek may feel they are turning complete circles as they navigate this twisty county road.
