Pet Pals Stay in Touch All Year Long

The Open Door Animal Sanctuary's Pet Pal sponsorship program is a holiday gift that keeps giving long after the holiday season is over

The Open Door Animal Sanctuary Pet Pal sponsorship program Open Door's Pet Pal sponsorship makes for a unique gift idea this holiday season. A donation of just $10 a month sponsors one of Open Door's lifelong residents. These are the animals that are considered unadoptable for one reason or another and will remain at the shelter for the rest of their days.

The monthly donation is used for food, medicine and all the "comforts of a real home. Pet Pal sponsors will receive pictures, holiday cards and letters updating them of their Pet Pal's life at Open Door. To sponsor a pet, contact Amanda at 636-671-3643 or email her at cats@odas.org.

Here are just a few of the Pet Pals available at Open Door:

Alex is an 8-year-old mixed breed dog. He is a little shy which has prevented him from making a love connection here at the shelter. He is a super sweet dog that has bonded with the employees he sees every day. Alex has severe allergies that require an expensive diet and special care. Seeing as how no one really adopts a dog that has such special needs, Alex will remain at the shelter, and we are just fine with that.

Lisa is a 10-year-old Shepherd mix that has lived at the shelter most of her life. When Lisa first arrived, she had a bit of an aggression problem. We have worked with her to correct the issue and now she is a happy-go-lucky girl. Lisa has some skin issues that require special treatment year round. She also takes daily medication for her thyroid. Since people are not interested in taking an older dog that has health problems, we will keep Lisa here and love her for the rest of her days.

Napoleon is a 2-year-old boy that loves everyone. He is the official office greeter and makes sure everyone who comes in pets him. While Napoleon is highly adoptable, everyone at the shelter is so in love with him that we want him here with us. Napoleon has also become famous as he was used in a series of photos for advertising on Tidy Cats Facebook page. We love having Napoleon as a Pet Pal because he loves having his picture taken.

Dylan came to us from a raid on a facility that was hoarding animals and selling them to research labs. Since he spent the beginning of his life in such horrible conditions, he is very nervous around people. This shelter is the only "home"  he has ever known. Dylan does have chronic eye and respiratory issues that need to be treated throughout the year. He also has a sensitive digestive system and has to be on a special diet. Dylan has spent six years here and we are happy to be his family.
