Nine Unusual Thrift Store Treasures

What treasures can be found at your local thrift store? Patch visited Goodwill, Stuff-n-More and Value Village on a treasure hunt of its own.

They say that one man’s junk is another man’s treasure. Then again, maybe not. Thrift store shopping can yield incredible bargains, replacement coffee pots and every once in a while, a real treasure. Fenton and High Ridge have three thrift stores—, Goodwill and Value Village--where you can sift through castoffs looking for your own pot of gold. Or at least a really cheap set of glassware.

Ancient Artifacts: What happens when history and thrifting collide? You find ancient relics like this manual typewriter. ("And children, it didn’t even play games.") Located next to the film cameras and floppy disk drives.

Wish I Was Here: Too cheap to travel? Or maybe you forgot to get a souvenir for Aunt Sally the last time you went on vacation? No worries, just pop down to your local thrift shop for souvenirs to places you haven’t been.

Piggies on Vacation: Because everyone needs a piggie figurine to get themselves in that vacation mood. Right?

Hairstyles of the World: A coffee table book for hair stylists with a flare for international history. A thousand hairstyles rendered in pencil just leaves us with one question … why?

Wedding Guest Book: We’re guessing this wedding didn’t go off as planned. Item unused. Thankfully.

Got a Spare? New cars are now coming without spare tires—no problem, you can just grab one at the thrift store.

Popular Music That Will Live Forever: Or, at least as long as you have a turntable. See Ancient Artifacts above.

Vases: There’s nothing weird about vases, but the sheer number glass vases you can find in a thrift store is a little scary. Did all these come from one really popular gal? Next Valentine’s Day, you know where to go to save a little cash. Flowers not included.

Scary Clowns: There’s no questioning why these clown figurines ended up in the thrift store. The question is … who’s going to buy them now?
