Donated Wheelchairs Given New Life

NextStep for Life wheelchair donation programs provides "wheels" for Jefferson Countians who need a way to navigate through their world.

NextStep for Life’s Family Support Services, which provides help and support for the disabled in Jefferson County, recently donated 12 wheelchairs to Wheels for the World.  KidStart, one of the Next Step for Life programs has a lending library of equipment including manual wheelchairs, manual wheelchair parts, walkers, metal canes and metal crutches. Equipment that needs repair or general rehabilitation work is donated to a group called Wheels for the World, here the wheelchairs are restored to like-new condition by inmates at correctional facilities and then re-distributed in developing countries where each recipient receives a custom fit chair.

Donations of new or used new or used mobility equipment can be made to Next Step for Life by dropping it off at the group's office at 3875 Plass Road in Mapaville.
