Come Find Your New Best Friend

Open Door Animal Sanctuary has scheduled an Adoptathon for this weekend.

The Open Door Animal Sanctuary hopes the pets in its care have a warm welcome at its Adoptathon this weekend.

The organization's Paws and Claws Adoption Extravaganza will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday through Sunday at the Open Door facility at 6065 Duda Rd., House Springs.

Open Door, which is a no-kill animal shelter, has more than 400 dogs, cats, puppies and kittems available for adoption.

"The need for good homes and people with big hearts is ever increasing," says Amanda Duncan, Open Door cattery manager. "Open Door is not very well known throughout the St. Louis area, even though we've been in the same location for 35 years. We are hoping to change that."

Duncan said the goal of the Adoptathon is to attract potential adopters, volunteers and donors. Those who bring a donation to Open Door will be entered into a drawing for a deluxe dog or cat goodie basket.

Open Door is a non-profit agency dedicated to preserving the lives and welfare of homeless cat and dogs in the area. The organization is funded strictly by donations and adoption fees.

Duncan has issued a standing invitation to animal lovers: "Please come join us for a tour of the facility and to fall in love with some of our precious homeless babies."
