'Woofstock' Scheduled as Dog Park Event

The committee to establish Bark Park at Unger, the first dog park in a St. Louis County Park, has scheduled it's first fundraiser - “Woofstock” - from 2 to 4 p.m. at in Fenton, sort of a "peace, love and yappiness" affair.

The Bark Park group also will be making appearances at the Fenton Days 175th Birthday Party on Aug. 25, at Kirkwood's Green Tree Festival Sept. 14-16 and at a Corvette show at on Oct. 13

At the events, the nonprofit group will be meet the public, answer questions, and learn about what pet owners would like to have in a new dog park and how a dog park would affect their lives

Woofstock is the first official fundraiser for Bark Park at Unger. Unger Park is located behind the soccer fields at the (Soccer Park).   The park includes 94 acres of land with a 28-acre lake where dogs can play and paddle.  Activities and events planned for Woofstock include: Treats Unleashed, K-9 Pack Leader Training & Rehabilitation, veterinarians from , Rub-a-Dub Doggie groomers, Yappy Kamper Daycare, contests, raffles, ice cream and more.  Well-behaved dogs are welcome at the dog-friendly event.  For safety reasons 4-6 ft. leashes are required (no retractables).

The Bark Park at Unger committee needs to raise $100,000 to $125,000 to construct the basics of a dog park. It will be completely funded by the nonprofit group who will raise the funds and maintain the park.  Future plans include a dock where dogs can leap into the lake, a beach area for wading, an agility area and separate fenced areas for small and large dogs. Bark Park at Unger will be privately financed. Funds will come from grants, fundraisers, and donations from individuals and corporations. Once the park is built, membership fees will be needed to help maintain the park. At this point the annual membership fee is undecided. Membership will be open to all.
