7 Ways to Trap a Leprechaun on St. Patrick’s Day
March 17 is St. Patrick's Day, a time for all things green and lucky.
They say if you catch a leprechaun you can ask him to give you his pot of gold. There’s no better time to search for a lucky leprechaun than on St. Patrick’s Day, which this year falls on Saturday. If you have kids in the house, check out Disney’s FamilyFun for more on how to set up a leprechaun trap. As for what to bait the trap with, we have a few suggestions:
Green Cookies: has plenty of sugary treats with green sprinkles that could tempt any leprechaun, or just make the kids happy while they wait to see if their trap works. We think the green homemade marshmallows on a stick could be both bait and trap. Let us know if it works.
Irish Beer: Grown-ups wanting to lure a lucky leprechaun—or just entertain a few friends Saturday--might want to drop by Friar Tuck’s for a case of Guinness Draft or McSorley’s Irish Pale Ale. Just don’t use beer in the kid’s trap, ok? A few of these and you’ll be seeing leprechauns too.

Gold Coins: According to legend, leprechauns are a greedy lot and can be drawn into a trap with shiny gold coins. Although you could certainly use a real gold coin from , you could also load your trap with “golden” dollar coins from your local bank. We hear these are popular with the Tooth Fairy, too.
Shamrock Shake: What says Happy St. Patrick’s Day more than a Shamrock Shake from McDonald’s? Well, probably lots of things, but this is the one time it’s safe to drink green dairy products. Get one quick, they’ll vanish by March 25.

Real Shamrocks: Search for a four leaf clover at floral department. It has potted shamrocks, green carnations and mums dressed up as leprechauns.
Corned beef: Lure a leprechaun into your kitchen with the aroma of corned beef. Schnuck’s has corned beef and cabbage on sale. Even if you don’t attract any leprechauns, you’ll surely get your family’s attention. Here' a good recipe from food expert Suzanne Corbett, using some of the aforementioned Irish brew
Caucus: March 17 is also the date of the Missouri county level Republican caucus. We hear that some candidates will need the luck of the Irish to win this election, so if you’re Republican you might want to set up your trap here.
