Jefferson College will host a free concert by the United States Air Force Band of Mid-America Shades of Blue Jazz Ensemble on Sunday, September 15, at 3 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre on the Hillsboro campus. The program is suitable for all ages.
The concert is part of the college’s new PACE (Performing Arts and Cultural Enrichment) event series that features world-class performers and college-based student/community groups.
The Shades of Blue Jazz Ensemble is a group of 18 professional enlisted musicians whose repertoire ranges from traditional big band jazz, to bebop and swing, to modern jazz. At one of their concerts, you are just as likely to hear the music of contemporary composers as you would the classic sounds of Count Basie or Glenn Miller. Several of the band's members are also gifted composers and arrangers, and their compositions are often featured in concert.
The Band of Mid-America has a long history of entertaining the American public and promoting esprit de corps within the military. The unit strives to inspire the hearts and minds of our men and woman serving around the world and to tell the Air Force story through the universal language of music. Each year, the Band of Mid-America performs for millions of people throughout a 10-state region from Michigan to Oklahoma.
