Lafayette and Eureka high schools finished in the middle of the pack of the highly competitive Suburban West Conference this spring. But the Rockwood schools were both well-recognized on the all-conference team with five first-team selections each on the 24-player squad. Lafayette, which finished fourth in the conference, had the co-Player of the Year in Will DuPont. The junior infielder led the Suburban West in four different categories. It seems like only yesterday that the high school spring sports season began. But the postseason has begun in one sport and is on the horizon for many other sports. SOCCER The Lindbergh girls won the championship in the CYC/Joseph Carenza Soccer Tournament. The Flyers did not allow a goal in the tournament, defeating Pacific 9-0, Webster Groves 1-0 and Collinsville, 3-0, in the championship game. Oakville finished third in the tournament. An unbeaten record at this point of the high school baseball season is indeed a rarity. But Parkway South won a pair of tight games over Lafayette last week and has yet to taste defeat in 2011. The Patriots were coming off of a sweep of Mehlville over the weekend. They scored 11 runs in the first inning in a 24-10 win on April 16. The Parkway South lead was actually cut to 11-9 after two innings but then they scored six in both the fifth and sixth innings.
