Test Drive a Ford, Earn Money for Lindbergh Schools

The first 300 participants to test drive vehicles at Lindbergh High School on Saturday will earn $20 each toward the school district, and be entered to win a free iPad.

Community members age 18 and older are invited to get it in gear for Lindbergh Schools on Saturday, May 4, during the iDrive free test drive event at Lindbergh High School, sponsored by Sunset Ford. The first 300 participants who test drive any one of Ford’s 13 models will be entered for a chance to win a free iPad, according to a news release from the school district.  The event is scheduled 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. Ford is donating $20 for each test drive taken, up to $6,000 total, as part of its “Drive One 4UR School” program, according to the release. All proceeds will benefit the Lindbergh Schools Foundation. Participants take a 10-minute test drive--no sales pitch involved. Taste-D-Burger food truck will be offering burgers and fries, and LHS …

Surgeon Operates on Wrong Side of Woman's Brain in Fenton

A neurosurgeon based at SSM St. Clare in Fenton operated on the wrong side of a woman's brain during surgery, according to a lawsuit. Now the woman is unable to speak intelligibly.

A neurosurgeon based at SSM St. Clare Health Center in Fenton has his employer apologizing for operating on the wrong side of a St. Ann woman's brain and skull during brain surgery on April 4. That's according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, which also reported that the woman being operated on will likely suffer from emotional distress, anxiety, disfigurement and depression.  The woman is now filing a medical malpractice lawsuit against SSM Health Care, the St. Louis Business Journal reports. According to one medical website, Bill Hoefer, president of St. Clare Health Center, said the hospital is "committed to patient safety and the highest quality health care. Jim Butler Chevrolet Set to Expand Gravois Bluffs Facility

Dealership to add eight service bays, car wash.

The auto business has been good for Jim Butler Chevrolet, in Fenton. Brad Sowers, who runs the sprawling dealership at 759 Gravois Bluffs Blvd., says the move to a non-traditional location has paid off. "We've been doing really well here since we moved six years ago," Sowers said. Business is so good Jim Butler Chevrolet ranked No. 1 in Chevrolet retail sales in the St. Louis region for the first quarter of this year, according to spokesman Scott DieckGraefe. Dieckgraefe said the dealership sold 474 new Chevrolet cars, trucks and SUVs in the first quarter, a 16 percent increase over the same period in 2012. Fabulous Fifties Are in the Passing Lane in Fenton

Passing Lane Motors, Fenton, recently added two new vehicles to its classic car lineup.

Daryl Ball, proprietor of Passing Lane Motors, 54 Mae Court, Fenton, has taken a trip back to the Fifties with two new vehicles in his classic and vintage car showroom. Recently added to the Passing Lane are a red 1958 Chevrolet Impala and a flat black 1959 Chevrolet short bed pickup truck. The two vehicles are part of a full showroom of classic and vintage cars that also includes a 1969 Plymouth Road Runner and a 1961 Rolls Royce Bentley that once was owned by Hollywood legend James Cagney. Ball's fleet of classic cars aren't just museum pieces, either. He'll happily turn over the keys to anyone interested in purchasing a car off the showroom floor. H-J Enterprises Gets OK to Proceed With Expansion of High Ridge Facility

More warehouse space and a testing laboratory are the goals of an expansion plan for H-J Enterprises, Inc., of High Ridge.

H-J Enterprises, Inc., 3010 High Ridge Blvd. High Ridge, is seeking to add about 40,000 square feet to its facility on 6217 Highway PP in High Ridge and was seeking a variance to Jefferson County zoning regulations in order to do so. It received approval for the variances at Thursday's meeting of the Planning band Zoning Commission. H-J president Jay Sheckelton, said the new space would be used to increase the company's warehouse capacity by about 40,000 square feet and to create a 10,000 square-foot high voltage testing lab. As a long-range result of the expansion, Sheckleton said the company ultimately hopes to add 35-40 people to the payroll. "We have a great work force," he said. Fenton Man Inducted into Missouri S&T Academy of Civil Engineers

A Fenton man was inducted into the Missouri S&T Academy of Civil Engineers on April 18, Rolla Daily News reports. Tom Sieckhaus is senior vice president and partner at Clayco Construction Corp. after joining the company as a project manager, according to the report. The academy "honors civil engineers for their contribution to the profession, leadership and involvement with Missouri S&T," according to their Missouri S&T website.

High Ridge Kmart to Close in Mid-June

The store, which opened in 1983, began its liquidation sale last week. Currently, all merchandise is 10- to 30-percent off.

The High Ridge Kmart, which opened 30 years ago at 4560 Gravois Village Center, is shuttering its doors.  The store will close in mid-June. It began its liquidation sale last week. Currently, all merchandise is 10- to 30-percent off. Kmart is subsidiary of Sears Holdings Corporation. Howard Riefs, a company spokesman for Sears Holdings, said in a statement to Patch: "As a part of the ordinary course of business we close stores for a variety of reasons. A year ago we were all being told just how wonderful it was going to be to have a big new shiney Walmart in High Ridge. How it was going to give us bunches of jobs and bring in tax money for our area. Anyone with a brain can see what a great thing Walmart has been for High Ridge.
