Kauai in Duotone

As 2012 comes to and end many of us like to reflect on some of the best moments of the year.  For me that was a trip to Kauai in early November with a group 9 good friends, all residents of Fenton.  We indulged in the beautiful sights, the ocean, and of course the great food and drink.  I highly recommend a visit to this beautiful island.

Kauai is oldest and northern most of the main Hawaiian Islands.  It is lush, tropical, and very beautiful.  It is a quiet island with less of the urban and more of the rural.

Most of the photos we typically see of Hawaii are understandably full of the beautiful saturated colors that are found in the tropics.  I tried to find a different way of showing the beauty of Kauai in a duotone style, which is basically black and white, with 2 colors introduced.  I used  yellows in the highlights and blues in the shadows to get the results that you will see in this set of images.

Would love hear from as many of you as possible on the duotone style.  Are my choices of color good?  Would you rather see this type of image in color or pure black and white?   Are you interested in seeing these images in color on my next post?

If you are interested in seeing more duotones, I have posted 24 of these images on my website: www.ferdworks.com

 Enjoy

 Till we meet again

Ferd.. Happy 2013 young man for you and yours! I love the shack photo and the lane lined with trees duotone. Some of the others are a little too much yellow for me but good shots.. maybe just plain b & w on those. Great work Ferd I know you'll keep it coming! Maddy

They make for very dreamlike images, more a mythical place than real. Very cool.

These are great and I vote to see the color as well. The yellow and blue additions look great. Especially liked the Salvation Army shot.

Wow. Hawaii just moved up on the list of places I want to visit.

Very attractive photos. The duotone is striking and dreamlike. HDR is so 2012!
I especially love the Monkey Tree.
