Zombies, Firefighters, Anime on Tap at Jefferson County Library, Arnold
The library announces its free programs for children, teens and adults.
The Arnold branch of the Jefferson County Library, 1701 Missouri State Road, has cooked up a wide variety of children's and teen programs for October.
Story Times will be at 10 a.m and 6 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays. The sessions include books and a craft activity centered on a theme.
Children are invited to come in costume for the October 29-30 story times for trick-or-treating after the stories. The Story Times are open to all ages.
The October meeting of Book Bites: Teen Book Club will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Oct. 4. Teens will discuss the books they’ve read in the past month while enjoying snacks. Participants are asked to read one teen book before attending the book club meeting. Sign-up requested. Refreshments provided.
Children are invited to the library on from 4 to 5 p.m. Oct. 12 for Stop, Drop & Roll: A Friendly Firefighter Program. Children will learn safety tips from a Rock Community Fire Protection District firefighter. The session is for children three to 12 years old. Advance sign-up is requested.
The Show Me Readers Club, a special book club for children in elementary school, will be start again from 4:30 to 5 p.m. October 18. Meetings will be every first and third Thursday through March 7, 2013. Children will read one of the 2012-2013 Show Me Readers Award nominee books and complete related activities during each club meeting. Those who attend at least six club meetings will be invited to a Voting Party on March 7, 2013. The first book being read by the club is Fly Free, by Roseanne Thong. The Show Me Readers Club is for children 5 to 12 yeas old. Advance sign-up is requested
The Teen Anime Club will continue to meet once a month from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month. Teens are invited to watch anime chosen by teens. The October meeting will be on October 18, with the anime to be announced later. Call (636) 296-2204 for the anime to be shown. Refreshments will be provided. The club is for teens from 12 to 18 years old. Advance sign-up is requested.
Enjoy dinner while watching a family film during the monthly Monday Movie Munchies at 6 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month. On Oct. 22 the featured movie will be Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins. The movie will be projected onto a large screen. Participants should bring their own dinner and other refreshments. The program is for all ages.
Children, teens and adults are invited to a day of Halloween Hauntings from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. October 26. Creepy Crafts will be made from 10 to 11 a.m. Sign-up is requested for the crafts program. Frightening Films will be shown from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participants should bring their own lunch and other refreshments for the film period. The Zombie Apocalypse: A Teen Program will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Oct. 27. Teens should come dressed as either a zombie or a survivor and see who prevails in the end. For ages 12-18 years. Sign-up is requested.
