Cash, Jewelry Stolen From Grieving Widow Following Funeral

Almost $7,000 was reported stolen after a woman invited family members over to her Barnhart home after her husband's funeral.

Almost $7,000 was reported stolen after a Barnhart woman invited family members over to her house after her husband's funeral on Nov. 10.

The victim told officers with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department that she noticed several items missing after family members left her home on Meadowbrook Drive. Among the items were $600 in cash and several pieces of jewelry, including a man's gold wedding band.

The woman said she had received a call from her niece who told her who had taken the money and jewelry. Police tried to make contact with the individual to no avail.

That's horrible! Who could do that to someone who's grieving? My mother-in-law's house was burglarized when her dying husband was in assisted living & she was out of her house one night. They took heirloom jewelry that's irreplaceable. It's awful that there are such selfish people in the world!
