Free 'Woofstock' Event to Show Off New Bark Park Location
Hippie dogs, pet tricks and exhibitors to be part of an event that marks the debut of the location for a proposed dog park in St. Louis County's Unger Park, in Fenton.
The organizers of a proposed dog park in Fenton - Bark Park at Unger - have announced the list of activities scheduled for its first fund raiser, called "Woofstock," to be from 1 to 5 p.m. Oct. 7 at St. Louis County's Unger Park.
The Bark Park at Unger committee needs to raise $100,000 to $125,000 to construct the basics of a dog park. It will be completely funded by the nonprofit group which will raise the funds and maintain the park. Future plans include a dock where dogs can leap into the lake, a beach area for wading, an agility area and separate fenced areas for small and large dogs. Bark Park at Unger Committee Chair Darlys Preslar recommends keeping an eye on the group's website - BarkParkatUnger.com - for more details, input, tax-deductible donations and ways the public can help.
Woofstock will be an opportunity to see the future Bark Park at Unger in its "before" state, prior to all the improvements the group intends to make when the dog park becomes a reality.
Woofstock festivities will include some friendly competitions from 3 to 4 p.m., including the best hippie attire dog costume contest, a look-alike contest, and a best dog trick contest.
Several exhibitors will have exhibits throughout the afternoon, including K9 Pack Leader Training and Rehabilitation demonstrations by Bob Laut, facility photos, information and question and answer sessions by Rub A Dub Doggie Groomers and Yappy Kamper Daycare. The Olde Towne Fenton Pet Hospital will have an "Ask the Vet" booth at the event. There also will be prizes awarded throughout the festival from Treats Unleashed, The Natural Place for Pets. Face painting, treats from an ice cream food truck and "just for fun" tarot card readings will be available for a fee.
The Bark Park group has set up a few rules for Woofstock, including for safety reasons, 4-6-foot leashes are required for dogs , no retractables. All well-behaved/mannered dogs and their humans are welcome. Children under 12 must be with an adult. No alcoholic beverages are allowed.
