Cleaning Up the Towne on a Hot Day in Fenton
Olde Towne Fenton Business Association goes to work sprucing up the old business district.
Those folks in lime green shirts out in the Olde Towne Fenton business district Saturday morning were part of a cadre of business people and friends who were spreading mulch, washing windows, power washing sidewalks, trimming trees and otherwise sprucing up the Old Towne area.
Mayor Dennis Hancock was there for a time and Alderman Harold Bade spent all morning in the district. Neither ran for office promising to clean up Fenton, but it was exactly the agenda on Saturday as the fledgling Olde Town Business Association scheduled its first Beautification Day. The workers were given their marching orders by Michelle Van Tuyl, owner of Unique Ideas and More, as teams of workers fanned to complete a variety of specific projects.
The old Commerce Bank building was the site of much tree trimming and fence painting. The brick sidewalk at the Metro Electric building looked brand new after a thorough power washing by Jacob Van Tuyl. The long vines on the facade of Metro Electric were trimmed, revealing a stone arched doorway on the historic building.

We happened to be in Fenton yesterday for a softball tournament, and saw the groups of people in these bright shirts. Good to know what that was all about. The teamwork stood out.

Can someone tell me if there is a plan in place to repave Olde Towne? I try to avoid the area due to the rough road condition.
